About Buckin' Duck Ranch
Buckin' Duck Ranch is our little piece of country life in Cibolo, Texas, a place filled with animals, gardens, projects, rescue stories, and plenty of everyday farm chaos.
What started with a few ducks, a large garden, and a love for fostering rescue kittens has grown into a busy hobby farm that now includes Silkie chickens, Dutch Hookbill ducks, Sebastopol geese, and an ever-changing collection of animals that keep life interesting.
At Buckin' Duck Ranch, our animals are first and foremost our pets. We believe in giving them plenty of space, quality care, and an environment that allows them to do what animals do best, scratch, forage, swim, graze, make messes, and occasionally destroy something we just finished fixing.
Our gardens and animal areas are designed to work together whenever possible. From using nutrient-rich pond water in the garden to finding practical ways to reuse and repurpose around the ranch, we enjoy learning as we go and making the most of what we have.
OUR ANIMALS
A flock with plenty of personality.
Buckin' Duck Ranch is NPIP certified, No. 74-4907.
We currently raise and breed:
- Silkie chickens in a variety of colors and feather types
- Dutch Hookbill ducks, a critically endangered and extremely rare breed with fewer than 2,000 breeding adults worldwide and fewer than 550 in the United States
- Sebastopol geese, a threatened breed with fewer than 1,100 breeding adults in the United States, including White, Splash, Grey, and Buff varieties
Depending on the season and availability, we may offer hatching eggs, chicks, ducklings, goslings, or other birds to local families and fellow poultry enthusiasts.
Because we are a small hobby farm rather than a commercial breeding operation, availability changes throughout the year and always depends on our animals.
A HEART FOR RESCUE
Animals have always been at the center of our story.
Animal rescue has always been an important part of our story.
Before the ranch grew into what it is today, much of our time was devoted to fostering rescue kittens and helping prepare them for adoption and their forever homes. That love of animals continues to influence everything we do at Buckin' Duck Ranch.
MEET THE OWNERS
Jason and Amy
Buckin' Duck Ranch is owned and operated by husband-and-wife team Jason and Amy.
Both bring a military background to ranch life. Amy is an Air Force veteran, and Jason is retired Navy. Between the two of them, you would think there would be enough discipline, structure, and planning to keep the ranch running like a well-oiled machine.
The animals did not get that memo.
Jason is usually the one building, repairing, expanding, redesigning, reinforcing, or figuring out how to make Amy's latest ranch idea actually work. If something needs a fence, a gate, a shelter, a pond, a run, or a complete redesign because the animals outsmarted version one, Jason is probably involved.
Amy is usually behind the animals, breeding programs, gardens, rescue efforts, and the daily stories shared from around the ranch. She is also very good at coming up with “simple little projects” that somehow become full-scale construction jobs.
Together, they have learned that ranch life is largely a series of negotiations with animals who have absolutely no interest in following the plan.
There is always something happening here, a broody hen refusing to cooperate, ducks ignoring the beautiful area built specifically for them, geese loudly announcing their opinions to anyone within earshot, or an animal finding the one place it was definitely not supposed to be.
Some days the humans win.
Some days the ducks win.
Most days, the ducks win.
We share the good, the messy, the funny, and the occasionally ridiculous parts of ranch life because that is what Buckin' Duck Ranch is really about.
It is not a picture-perfect farm.
It is real life, real animals, a lot of hard work, a lot of laughter, and a whole lot of love.
