BUCKIN' DUCK RANCH
Sales Policies
Welcome to Buckin' Duck Ranch!
Howdy, friends!
We're so glad you're here. Buckin' Duck Ranch is not a large commercial breeding operation. We are hobby farmers who love our animals, country life, and meeting other people who share our love of poultry, especially families and children!
Our animals are first and foremost our pets, and we enjoy sharing their offspring with others who want to raise and enjoy them too.
Because the ranch is not our full-time business, responses may occasionally take a little time. Between our regular jobs, family, travel, and caring for the animals, we do our best to respond to questions and orders as quickly as possible.
We are also happy to share what we have learned about incubation, raising poultry, and general poultry care.
By purchasing chicks, ducklings, goslings, live birds, or hatching eggs from Buckin' Duck Ranch, you acknowledge and agree to the policies below.
2026 Silkie Breeding Pens
Our Silkie breeding pens and breeding program for 2026 are established for the season. If a variety is not listed below, we do not currently offer it.
Hen's Choice
A mixture of eggs collected from our laying pens based on what has been most recently laid. Eggs will be labeled by color or pen whenever possible, but the assortment will vary.
Paint Pen
Primarily Black Paint, with some Chocolate Paint. All birds are regular feathered. No Frizzles, Satins, or Naked Necks. All are bearded.
Recessive White
All regular feathered. No Frizzles, Satins, or Naked Necks. All are bearded.
Lavender
No Frizzles. There is a slight possibility of Naked Neck offspring. The pen contains approximately a 50/50 mix of Satin and regular-feathered birds.
Mille and Partridge
Primarily regular feathered, with a possibility of Satin offspring. Chicks may be Mille or Partridge.
Mottled
Bearded birds with Silkied and Satin feather types represented in the pen. There is a possibility of Frizzle or Satin offspring. Mottling may be Black Mottled or Chocolate Mottled.
Blue Cream
All regular feathered. No Naked Necks or Frizzles. All are bearded.
Fun Pen
Our mixed pen of favorite birds! What you hatch is a surprise, and the eggs are priced accordingly for those who enjoy a little mystery.
2026 Sebastopol Geese
We currently breed White, Splash, Grey, and Buff Sebastopol geese.
Sebastopols are a threatened heritage breed, with fewer than 1,100 breeding adults in the United States.
Color can sometimes be difficult to determine accurately when goslings are very young. We do our best to match buyers with their preferred color when possible, but specific colors cannot always be guaranteed at a young age.
2026 Dutch Hookbill Ducks
Breeding is closed for the 2026 season. We will have a new breeding schedule in 2027, so please check back.
Dutch Hookbills are critically endangered and extremely rare, with fewer than 2,000 breeding adults worldwide and fewer than 550 in the United States.
Our Dutch Hookbill ducks are not separated into breeding pens by color. Because of this, we cannot predict or guarantee the color of ducklings or offspring.
Chicks, Ducklings, Goslings, and Live Birds
We do not currently ship chicks, ducklings, or goslings. All baby birds are available for local pickup only.
All chicks are sold straight run, meaning they are unsexed. We do not DNA sex chicks and cannot guarantee gender.
Unless specifically stated otherwise, we do not guarantee the sex of ducklings or goslings.
We do not sell day-old chicks, ducklings, or goslings. We generally prefer our babies to be approximately one week old before pickup so we can confirm they are eating, drinking, healthy, and stable.
All babies will be healthy and showing no known signs of illness at the time of pickup. Once they leave our care, Buckin' Duck Ranch cannot be responsible for stress-related illness, injury, environmental conditions, improper care, or loss.
Before pickup, buyers should have an appropriate brooder or housing environment prepared, including proper heat when necessary, appropriate feed, clean water, and protection from predators and weather.
Please research the specific needs of the birds you are purchasing before bringing them home. Chickens, ducks, and geese have different care and housing requirements.
We are always happy to answer questions and share what has worked well for us.
Hatching Egg Orders
We maintain a waitlist for hatching egg orders and fill orders as eggs become available.
When we contact you regarding egg availability, we ask that you respond within 24 hours. If we do not receive a response, those eggs may be placed in our incubator or offered to the next person on the waitlist.
Payment is due when the order is placed.
Because egg production depends entirely on our hens, ducks, and geese, we cannot guarantee an exact collection or shipping date. Birds may slow production, stop laying temporarily, or go broody without notice.
If you change your mind about the color, breed, or breeding pen you selected, we are generally happy to transfer your order to another available waitlist. Your place in line will be based on availability for the newly selected option.
If you decide you would prefer to hatch at a later time, we may apply your payment as a credit toward a future hatching egg order.
Hatching Egg Fertility and Hatch Rates
Our breeding birds are healthy and well cared for, and we regularly test fertility using eggs from our own breeding pens.
We generally will not sell hatching eggs from a breeding group if our own fertility testing falls below approximately 90%.
However, fertility and hatch rates are not guaranteed.
Once an egg leaves our ranch, many factors beyond our control can affect development and hatch rates, including:
- Shipping and handling
- Temperature exposure
- Incubator accuracy
- Temperature and humidity settings
- Egg handling
- Incubator cleanliness
- Power interruptions
- Individual embryo development
Shipping hatching eggs always carries risk. Even eggs from highly fertile breeding birds may experience poor development or hatch rates after shipping.
We have personally purchased shipped eggs that resulted in very low, or even zero, hatch rates. Unfortunately, that is part of the risk involved with shipped hatching eggs.
If you are uncomfortable accepting that risk, please do not purchase shipped hatching eggs.
We are happy to share our incubation techniques, recommended temperature and humidity ranges, and information about incubators that have worked well for us.
Shipping Weather
To help protect hatching eggs during transit, we generally do not ship when forecast temperatures are:
- Above 80°F, or
- Below 30°F
Orders will be held until temperatures return to a safer shipping range.
If you specifically request that we ship outside these recommended temperatures, you accept responsibility for temperature-related damage or reduced viability, including freezing, cracking, overheating, or other environmental damage.
Weather delays or changes in egg production do not qualify an order for a refund.
Shipping and collection dates are estimates only and cannot be guaranteed.
Shipping Damage and USPS Claims
Hatching egg shipments are insured for their purchase value when applicable.
If your package arrives damaged while in the care of USPS, the buyer will be responsible for filing the applicable shipping claim.
Please keep the shipping box, packaging materials, damaged contents, and all other materials associated with the shipment. USPS may require these items for inspection during the claims process.
Do not discard packaging until your claim has been fully resolved.
Refunds, Returns, and Replacements
Because of the nature of live animals and hatching eggs:
All sales are final.
Hatching Eggs
There are no refunds, returns, or replacement guarantees for hatching eggs.
Fertility and hatch rates are not guaranteed.
Chicks, Ducklings, Goslings, and Live Birds
There are no refunds, returns, or replacements after pickup.
Please inspect your birds and ask any questions you may have before leaving the ranch.
Order Cancellations
Once an order has been paid, cancellation does not qualify for a cash refund.
When appropriate and agreed upon by Buckin' Duck Ranch, payment may be transferred to another available breed, breeding pen, or order, or maintained as a credit toward a future order.
Holding Chicks, Ducklings, Goslings, Live Birds, or Eggs
We do not hold chicks, ducklings, goslings, live birds, or hatching egg orders without the required payment or deposit.
Specific availability cannot be guaranteed until payment arrangements have been completed.
Local Pickup
Pickup is by arrangement.
We try to be flexible with pickup scheduling whenever possible. Please contact us to coordinate an available pickup time.
Because Buckin' Duck Ranch is also our home and a working hobby farm, please do not arrive without a confirmed appointment.
Right to Refuse a Sale
Buckin' Duck Ranch reserves the right to refuse or cancel a sale at our discretion when we believe doing so is in the best interest of our animals, our farm, or the parties involved.
Agreement to Policies
These policies are publicly available so customers can review them before making a purchase.
By submitting payment, placing an order, or taking possession of chicks, ducklings, goslings, live birds, or hatching eggs from Buckin' Duck Ranch, the buyer acknowledges that they have had the opportunity to review these policies and agrees to the terms stated above.
